UTAS Learning Hub

Centre for the Arts

Located in the historic Jones & Co IXL building on the waterfront in Hobart, this project seeks to revitalise student study areas within the Centre for the Arts university library.

Addressing the needs for group and individual study areas plus out-of-hour’s access, the spaces are articulated using ‘iceberg’ modules alluding to our Antarctic neighbour and adjacent shipping dock facilities.

Technology is incorporated independently of this raw & rough timber structure, with colourful & textural contrast adding to the rich building fabric.

Wireless networks, video conferencing and plasma screens were part of the technology upgrades.

The result is a colourful, fresh & technologically up-to-date learning hub for students & staff.
